Het Nederlandse ‘Streetkids United II: The Girls From Rio’ is op het Marbella International Film Festival bekroond tot beste documentaire.
De jury prees het positieve verhaal en de manier waarop het doorzettingsvermogen van de straatkinderen in beeld is gebracht door regisseusse Maria Clara. Eerder won de film op een festival in Cambridge al de publieksprijs.
‘Streetkids United II’ vertelt over het WK Voetbal voor Straatkinderen, dat vorig jaar in Rio de Janeiro werd georganiseerd. De documentaire volgt het Braziliaanse meisjesteam, de Favela Street Girls, tijdens hun deelname.
Producent JaJa Film heeft tevens een fototentoonstelling over de Street Child World Cup samengesteld met werk van Robin Utrecht en Marco Hofste. Deze tentoonstelling was het afgelopen jaar al op meerdere plekken te zien waaronder de Amsterdam ArenA.
De Nederlandse première is op 17 oktober 2015 tijdens het Cinekid Film Festival in Amsterdam. De Nederlandse straatvoetbalster Rocky Hehakaija, die ook in de documentaire te zien is, zal die dag ook een workshop verzorgen.

I got acquainted with the documentary about the ‘Favela Street Girls’ only yesterday.
I reckon it is my first real interst carried away in order to watch a docu. It never occured to me earlier on/ the pretty landscape of Rio de Janeiro made me feel thirsty for geographical relief. Am I wandering to drop by in Rio one fine day? Who knows… The esprit of the (gorguous) people appearing is beyond wonderful and the football scheme makes it even more beautiful. I am sure I am gonna watch it one fine day and not forgetting to keep it close to my heart I might decide to watch it over and over again untill the day I die.
